Eric Ramsey

The new year means a new chance to revamp your home design, and gorgeous new shots of shutters from homeowners in Gainesville and across the country. That also means a new winner for our Share Your Shutters contest, and the winner for January 2017 is Katie S. of Elk Grove, California for her Polywood® plantation shutters.

Elk Grove in Northern California is just one of the many towns around the country whose homes can benefit from Polywood shutters year-round. Even when somewhat open like in Katie’s photo submission, plantation shutters block a good amount of outside light from flooding into the home. In Elk Grove as well as in Gainesville, that’s a good thing for any savvy homeowner who wants a lot of customizability in their space.

Plantation shutters also block thermal energy, making them great for homeowners who experience hot summers or harsh winters, or who just want to maximize their home’s energy efficiency. That adds up to a cozier home and money saved every month with lower energy bills.

Katie’s shutters also take advantage of some newer home design trends. Neutral-hued backdrops such as her brown wall are becoming extremely popular, with contrasting splashes of colors–in Katie’s home the white of the Polywood shutters–providing points of interest throughout the room. Available in different white and off-white colors, plantation shutters can fill a nice niche in modern interior design.

As our latest Share Your Shutters winner, Katie wins a $100 gift certificate to a local restaurant, as well as getting her plantation shutters featured with our past winners.
