What To Expect At Your Gainesville In-Home Shutter Consultation

March 26, 2019

Before you decide ont what window covering to get, some companies, like Sunburst, start out with an in-home consultation. By taking products to you, we can show you how various window coverings would match up to your windows. This conversation helps you envision your options and helps you feel great about your decision.

But what happens during an in-home consultation? And how can bringing samples to your home allow you to better choose the perfect window treatment? Different companies may have a different agenda for their in-home consultation, but here is what you will get during your Sunburst appointment.

Start by scheduling an appointment by calling your local representative. If you already know what window covering you want, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make a special note to bring you different options available for your preferred product. We will also offer additional treatments, so you can be sure that your windows match your vision.

When we arrive, we’ll sit down and talk about what you need in a window treatment. We’ll cover issues like your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency needs, and we’ll ask about hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your rep will also ask about how the room is used and what ambiance you are looking to acheive. And it’s alright if you don’t know percisely what you need, as we’ll show you multiple options.

We might show you many different window treatments and compare each product against each other. Most customers want to look at a few different ideas, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or picking the best stain to match the room. We’ll also find all the options available for the covering, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

Once a decision is made, we’ll find the exact measurements of your windows. We will typically measure the windows in each room—even if you only plan to make a purchase for some of your windows. We perform this service because most of our customers want to order future shutters or blinds without another consultation. Finally, we will thoroughly explain the detailed, written quote, so there are no hidden costs on your invoice.

Red Flags For A Subpar In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are confident that Sunburst will give you professional in-home consultation, there are some red flags you should never see from any window treatment salesperson. After all, the quality of your sales representative usually equals the quality of the window treatments.

First, your rep should respect your home. They should arrive on time, clean and presentable, and offer to protect your floors with shoe booties. Your rep should always give you product and company pamphlets and pricing information.

When it comes to price, you should expect a full written quote. Don’t accept a vague guess, jotted down on a blank page or the back of a business card. And don’t take pricing estimates before they take any window measurements. You should always understand how much product and installation should cost. Don’t forget to look at references and online reviews.
