But what happens during an in-home consultation? And how can showing you different products at your home allow you to better choose the perfect window treatment? Different companies may have a different agenda for their in-home consultation, but here is what you will get during your Sunburst visit.

Start by making an appointment by calling your local representative. If you already know what window covering you want, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make a special note to bring you different options for your preferred product. We will also offer additional treatments, so you can feel confident that your windows match your ideal.

When we arrive, we’ll sit down and talk about what you are looking for in a window treatment. We’ll look at your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency needs, and we’ll ask about hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your rep will also ask about how the room is used and what ambiance you want to acheive. And it’s fine if you don’t know percisely what you need, as we’ll walk you through your options.

That may require going through different window treatments and measure each product against each other. Most customers need to look at a few different ideas, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or picking the best stain to match the room. We’ll also show you all the options available for the covering, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

Red Flags For A Subpar In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are confident that Sunburst will perform professional in-home consultation, there are some things you should never see from any window treatment salesperson. As they say, the quality of your sales representative reflects the quality of the window treatments.

Above all else, your rep should respect your home. He or she should arrive as scheduled, with all samples requested, and offer to protect your floors with shoe booties. Your rep should always give you product and company pamphlets and pricing information.

In regards to pricing, you should always get a full written quote. Don’t accept a guesstimate, scribbled on a blank page or the back of a business card. And don’t take pricing estimates before they take any window measurements. You need to understand how much product and installation should cost. If a quote ever seems sketchy or unreasonable, don’t be afraid to ask for references and look up the company’s online reviews.
